The side to side over execution of the electronically generated document or E-Way bill is said to be the fundamental piece of legislation for the road transport and logistics sector of the country. This seems to portray the downside of striving Goods and Services tax rule.
The Issue
The Truck operators around the country called up a two-day strike in order to protest against the GST, corruption in the industry and the increased price of diesel. This nationwide protest has been organized by AIMTC.
2-day strike Loss gross
This 2-day strike by transporters in October comes up with the loss of 2,000 crores to the transport industry. AIMTC, with more than 93 lakh transport bodies and almost 5 lakh busses and tourist operators under its domain claimed assistance from various transporter authorities. Due to this transport strike, the supplies of commodities are expected to be affected.
On the first day of AIMTC strike near about 70 to 80 percent of the trades around the country have shut down. This protest was supported by all the AIMTC constituent members, who are expecting the same ratio on day 2 of this strike. This has also been stated by the AIMTC officials that the protest might get started again after Diwali.
It is high time that government should trim down the taxes on diesel along with the prices matching the international market. The diesel must be brought under the sphere of GST to bring equality of pricing around the nation. Moreover, the prices should also be modified on a quarterly basis.
