Transport Policy Update: For Roadways Transport

The travelers might soon be liable to pay just for the national highway stretch they use and not the general toll tax. The road transport and highway Secretary, Yudhvir Singh Malik stated that the Government is working on a smart transport management system for the same.

The government of India is looking forward to a policy of tolling through a well-managed transport management system. By this, people need to pay toll fee just for the road stretch they use. The government is planning to come up with this policy and within the duration of 12 months and so, the things are planned to be positioned perfectly. On this subject, Malik also commented that a [Ro-Ro] roll-on, roll-off ferry has also been planned to be there in Surat to Gujarat’s other side.

This plan will save near about 600-700 km of distance. This ferry service project is worth Rs 615 crore and is inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the month of October this year. The ferry service connects Ghogha in Saurashtras Bhavnagar district with Dahej in Bharuch district across the Gulf of Khambhat, also termed as the Gulf of Cambay, along with the Arabian sea coast in Gujarat.

Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani, while sharing his views at the event, stated that the bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmadabad covering the distance of almost 508 km in less than three hours duration would be accomplished by the year 2022.

Further, Lohani added to the comments that “We are also looking at many other high-speed rail corridors. Ahmedabad-Mumbai is just a beginning.” He also highlighted the requirement of amplifying the speed of both freight as well as the passenger trains.
